Autumn musings

I love early Autumn. It is a beautiful, magical time. I also hate Autumn because it means winter is coming, and I’m not a real fan of winter. It’s cold and messy, and means high heating bills and things freezing that shouldn’t freeze (like pipes). This winter it will mean bundling several young children up in snow suits and boots to go outside and play, and unbundling them (perhaps wet with snow) when we come back in a short while later. That all sounds so crotchety and negative though, and I’m not going to approach it from that perspective. Instead, I am going to do my best to embrace winter this year and to keep things light and simple and as stress-free as possible, so we can still play outside often.

I wonder how other family child care providers have things set up for taking children outside when it’s cold and snowy?

I just updated the Activities Blog. We’ve been learning about caterpillars and butterflies, hammering along with the roof contractor, watching a boom truck unload shingles, and growing a potato plant. (plus a billion other things, but those are the new posts. Check it out!

I’m sitting in the rocking chair I got from Sara, listening to music we got from Jenny, covered with a quilt Michelle made from mom’s fabric after she passed away, looking at daycare toys and equipment I got from Wendy, Toni, Alycia, Rod & Christie, Gail, and MCC (Ronda and Perry), (did I forget anyone??), thinking about so many others who encourage and pray for us. You are forever woven into the fabric of what goes on here, and that is so wonderful to me. Thank you, my friends!
